two Iraqs

About a year ago I decided to start getting more serious about the pursuit of illustration work. I started making a whole new portfolio. Here's an early piece that I wasn't totally satisfied with on the general topic of "Iraq":


And this is the next one I came up with, which much better represents my strengths and interests as an image maker:

I think the first illustration has an emotional load oriented to people from the U.S., hard to grasp for the rest of us due to political reasons. The second illustration is more powerful to me in the sense of a photographic record - just the facts. About art skills, both look very good!

Thanks Fabian-
The first was too overtly emotional for me. Ended up feeling a little fake and forced. When I'm more true to my sensibilities I usually arive at a subtler more open-ended interpretation.
