Her Parents - 1/24/11

Mine and Ako's next episode of Adventure Time (second one we boarded, third to air) is gonna be on Cartoon Network, Monday at 8.  Guest starring Henry Rollins and Laura Silverman as Lady Rainicorn's parents, Bob and Ethel (if I remember right...)  I can now say that Henry Rollins sang a song I wrote, but it's the shortest dumbest song ever written, so, y'know.  But still.  Anyway, I woulda tried harder, but I thought originally it was gonna be sung in Korean, but then it wasn't.

Neat drawing. I love Beemo.

Awesome episode. Am I wrong, or was the quality of the animation a little higher for this one? Maybe it was just the dust on the breakfast scene. Also, Beemo's egg pile was great.

Thanks y'all.

Scott: Half the episodes (including this one) are animated at Rough Draft Studios and half at Saerom (both in Korea). RD is usually slicker and smoother, and overall nicer, but, on the other hand, they also smooth away some interesting idiosyncrasies.

Glad you dug the dust. I was really attached to that scene, and whined and complained a bunch trying to get it to look extra special. At the last minute our art director put the dust in, and I was like "Oh no! Too much!", but everyone else liked it. Glad you're proving 'em right.

Tom, I'm sure the different studios is what I'm noticing. A good example of the difference (correct me if I'm wrong) is "Crystals Have Power". Interesting idiosyncrasies galore. Though, I like 'em all.

Yeah, that was a combination of a board artist (Jesse Moynihan, one of my favorite cartoonists, btw) with a pretty idiosyncratic style, and Saerom studiously preserving all those idiosyncrasies. I loved it.

Jesse was actually a little freaked out when he saw it come back though. He's smoothed out some of his own quirks since then.
