Smooch

My figure paintings seems to fall into one of three categories: standing still, dancing, or smooching.

Jono

An old drawing of my old pal Jono. He was wearing really tight pants long before it was cool, and I'm sure he'll be wearing them long after.

Duress

Tom and I watched a weird Japanese movie a few months ago that I can't remember the name of. It was about a guy who spurts out grotesque bio-mechanical
cannons from his body when he's under extreme duress. It wasn't a very good movie but it made a big impression on us both. This is based on one of the sadistic bad guys who caused the duress.

Sketch

A sketch with some outright lifting of my father's palette knife stripe technique (thanks, dad).

The American

A book cover I just finished up for The Overlook Press. The book is titled "The American". It's a Young Adult western by Justin Allen.

Gongwanadon 3

Here are three non-consecutive pages from an old story I drew, "Gongwanadon 3", which was not good (thus the obscured text and missing pages). But some of the drawing is still interesting:

This one, which was my old homepage image, sorta gives away the ending:

Champion

I had a vision of a dude in a "Champion" sweatshirt (remember those?) and brought it to be.

Splash

I'm always trying to push the color in my figurative work, but I've always found it hard to make people with dark colored skin; greens, blues, blacks. It tends to obscure my linework more than I'm comfortable with. Here I compromised by making the figure pale green and putting some richer tones around him.

Upgrade Soul

A little while back I got commissioned by my online pal, cartoonist Ezra Clayton Daniels (who's a big fan of my stuff and of whose stuff I'm a big fan), to do some character designs for a story he's in the process of pitching. The script is incredible and I can't wait to read it in comics form.

This here is his website. If you're a fan of brainy, original sci-fi comics, it's worth checking out.

OH HEY, ALSO:
I just found out that you can read Ezra's first graphic novel, "The Changers", for free online. Don't hesitate, cause he actually gets paid when you read it. Here's the link:

Childish Aspect

My childish behavior lately is like a postcard. It needs to be addressed. Here's a sort of self portrait with a childlike pose and expression.

Bee Head

I started this with the idea of painting a woman with a big bee on her head. This is what it morphed into.

deerdrop

This was a drawing I made when I was experimenting with print-on-demand t-shirts after my book Gongwanadon came out. Like all the other times I've tried to design a t-shirt, it demonstrates a very poor assessment on my part of what people want on a t-shirt.
