Childish Aspect

My childish behavior lately is like a postcard. It needs to be addressed. Here's a sort of self portrait with a childlike pose and expression.

Bee Head

I started this with the idea of painting a woman with a big bee on her head. This is what it morphed into.

deerdrop

This was a drawing I made when I was experimenting with print-on-demand t-shirts after my book Gongwanadon came out. Like all the other times I've tried to design a t-shirt, it demonstrates a very poor assessment on my part of what people want on a t-shirt.

Growl

A recent piece I've just added to my portfolio website. A woman being eaten by/ copulating with/ transforming into a lion.

the Esao birthday post

A little birthday card I made for my buddy Esao a few years back:And from a year or two after: a drawing of Esao as a Simpsons character (this is from before there was a website or whatever that let non-drawing types do this) commissioned by his girlfriend for his birthday cake:

We're Dancing!

self confrontation

I'll be delving into the past a bit for the next few posts while I'm preoccupied with some faceless unglamorous anonymous freelance stuff.

New Self Portrait

From a couple weeks ago.

drawing

Not too recent.

Victim's Revenge

The last of my presumptive illustration portfolio pieces. I've always felt a lot of sympathy for kids that are picked on so much in school that they snap and go on a murder spree. I think we can all probably remember at least a couple of kids who caught more abuse than anyone should ever have to deal with, and who would have been well within their rights to snap back at the people inflicting it. Not that anyone should die over it, I'm just saying I understand the motivation.

Doomed

Well, I guess we're all doomed. But at least I don't drive.

Your Mother Is So Fat...

That when she goes camping, the bears have to hide their food from her. Can't remember where I heard that but thought it was worth sharing despite it's objectionable nature.

warrior monk

I got commissioned to draw this one by Joseph Cross of Portland. It's a First Earth Battalion soldier.
Joe says:
"...the concept of the soldier is based on an actual manifesto written by a former marine captain named Jim Channon who went crazy in Vietnam, and believed every soldier should be able to telekinetically stop a mans heart; the U.S. military took him seriously at one point. They actually used some of his ideas for modern day Psy-ops, such as playing popular songs over and over again to disorient the enemy(see Waco Texas/Koresh/Nancy Sinatra) Also the motto "Be all you can be" was derived from this manifesto."

He's going to use the drawing in the graphic novel he's working on, and also it (the drawing) is part of a show featuring images from the upcoming book.

These Days

I don't do many sketches these days. These days I do very little preparatory work at all. Just paintings with more or less time spent on them. This one was a bit of a quickie.

two Iraqs

About a year ago I decided to start getting more serious about the pursuit of illustration work. I started making a whole new portfolio. Here's an early piece that I wasn't totally satisfied with on the general topic of "Iraq":

And this is the next one I came up with, which much better represents my strengths and interests as an image maker:
